Yahtzee & Farkle Dice Game Hats

Yahtzee and Farkle are the dice games of family tables. Yahtzee was first marketed by E.S. Lowe in 1956, Milton Bradley bought the Lowe Company in 1973, and Hasbro acquired Milton Bradley in 1984. A Yahtzee is five of a kind and scores 50 points. The score sheets become heirlooms: one family writer describes saving used scorecards from the 1970s until the stack was about 50 deep, and another notes that you can see the family grow as new names appear on the sheets. The table noise is part of the game too, the rattle of dice, the gleeful shout when all five match and someone blowing on the dice for luck. Farkle is the folk-game cousin. When none of the dice score in a throw the player has farkled and loses all the points for that turn, and six scoring dice make hot dice, so the player rolls all six again. Groups disagree on the house rules, and the game is said to have crossed to North America on French sailing ships in the 1600s. These hats cover both games: badges for YAHTZEE and FARKLE, and sentence designs for the scorekeeper whose rulings are final, the early shouter, the large straight ultimatum and the dice blower. Two designs get a second colorway. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat, made for the cabin, the game night and the grandparents' table.
