That's A Boundary Hat
Somewhere in the last few years the language of the consulting room escaped into everyday conversation, and it did not arrive alone. It came with a function. A preference became a boundary. Being asked to reconsider something became invalidating. Ordinary accountability became an attack on someone's nervous system. The vocabulary is real and the underlying ideas are useful — that is precisely why the borrowed version works so well as a conversational trump card. Once a phrase can end a discussion, it gets used to end discussions.
These hats are worn by the person doing it, not the person complaining about it. That is the whole joke and it is the only version that is wearable: nobody wants a hat accusing whoever reads it of gaslighting, but a hat that says I CAN'T HOLD SPACE FOR THAT is a person cheerfully admitting they have found the off switch for every conversation they would rather not have. I'M NOT AVOIDING YOU, I'M REGULATING is the same confession with the receipts attached.
The register is deadpan on purpose. None of these lines are shouted. They are delivered flat, in the calm and slightly clinical voice the phrases are borrowed from, which is what makes them funny and what makes them land.
