Caller Number Nine Hat
Sweepers, as they call themselves, enter sweepstakes the way other people check email. About 55 million Americans enter sweepstakes each year, and 48 percent of them are aged 50 to 64. One sweeper in AARP's reporting enters 15 to 20 social sweepstakes a day and wins prizes from a 70-inch TV to 750 bottles of water; another, Dave Taube, enters about 60 a day and wins 70 to 100 a year. One sweeper's husband calls it "gambling with stamps," and the old guard still talks about the 3Cs, cars, cruises and computers, and the 3Ps, patience, persistence and postage.
Everyone over 35 also knows the Prize Patrol van and the radio promise of "caller number nine," a phrase radio programmers now call outdated. Publishers Clearing House filed Chapter 11 in April 2025, and its Prize Patrol said it would continue business as usual. These sweepstakes hats carry the sweeper's voice: the queen and the king badges, the pitch that you may already be a winner, and the winner of one tote bag.
Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. A natural gift for the family member who runs six email accounts and enters daily.
