Spoonie & Chronic Illness Hats

Spoon theory began in 2003, when Christine Miserandino, who has lupus, sat in a college dining hall and handed a friend twelve spoons to show how a day with chronic illness gets rationed: getting out of bed costs one, showering costs another. She posted it on her blog, But You Don't Look Sick, and "spoonie" became the self-chosen name of a community living with POTS, EDS, fibromyalgia, ME, lupus, RA and autoimmune disease. These hats wear its humor. The badge says SPOONIE. OUT OF SPOONS is the line spoonies already put on hats, and I HAD SIX SPOONS AND THE SHOWER TOOK FOUR does the spoon math out loud. CHRONICALLY ILL BUT TOTALLY CHILL is a phrase the community already wears on shirts. I AM THE ZEBRA flips the old medical adage, "when you hear hoofbeats, think of horses, not zebras": people with EDS call themselves medical zebras. "You don't look sick" tops the list of comments people with lupus are tired of hearing, so I DON'T LOOK SICK I'M JUST GOOD AT THIS and INVISIBLE ILLNESS VERY VISIBLE ATTITUDE answer it. MY IMMUNE SYSTEM HAS TRUST ISSUES, MEDICAL MYSTERY and BUILT DIFFERENT (MEDICALLY) keep the joke pointed at the body, never at anyone else. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. OUT OF SPOONS and CHRONICALLY ILL BUT TOTALLY CHILL each come in a second colorway.
