Rowing Hats

Rowing is an alumni-heavy, gift-receiving sport built on its own private vocabulary: the catch, drive, finish and recovery that make up one stroke, the coxswain who steers and calls the race without ever picking up an oar, and the dreaded 2k erg test that every competitive rower trains for and never stops dreading. These hats carry both halves of that voice. ROWING and COXSWAIN name the sport and its most distinctive role plainly, WEIGH ENOUGH is the coxswain's own command to stop rowing and let the boat glide, and MASTERS ROWER, the badge of everyone who came back to the sport as an adult, gets the collection's one arc, worn like a shop sign. The sentence designs carry the sport's self-aware humor: going backwards called a sport on purpose, rowing described as an excuse to talk about rowing, and the 2k erg test confessed as a lingering haunting rather than a finished workout. SHUT UP AND ROW and HEAD OF THE CHARLES close it out, a blunt command every crew has heard, and the marquee October regatta on Boston's Charles River that the whole sport builds its fall around. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. The two strongest lines, I GO BACKWARDS FOR SPORT and SHUT UP AND ROW, each get a second colorway.
