John Snow Knows Something Hat
Public health has a famous problem: when it works, nothing happens. Boris Lushniak, writing for the American College of Preventive Medicine in 2022, put the point as "when prevention works, nothing happens," and public health writers keep returning to it, because the wins are defined by what never occurs: outbreaks contained, clean water, polio and measles prevented. These public health hats are for the people who spend careers on that invisible result.
The field has a founding story too. John Snow, widely called the father of epidemiology, investigated London cholera in 1854 and traced an outbreak to the Broad Street pump. The Lancet first dismissed his work, then later corrected itself, praising his "visionary work in deducing the mode of transmission of epidemic cholera." Epi students still turn a Game of Thrones line into a pun on his name, and one design here does the same.
The rest covers the daily vocabulary: disease detective, correlation versus causation, and the boring water nobody thanks anyone for. Two plain badges, PUBLIC HEALTH and EPIDEMIOLOGIST, anchor the search terms. National Public Health Week, run by APHA in the first full week of April, and graduation season are natural gift moments.
Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear one to the office, the lab or commencement, or give one to the epidemiologist behind the outbreaks you never hear about.
