Business Class On A Coach Budget Hat
Points and miles is a hobby with its own vocabulary, and it is a lot bigger than the people who talk about it. In a Fortune profile, Danny Guo described opening 80 credit cards over ten years, earning roughly $32,000 in rewards while spending about 20 minutes a week on his tracking spreadsheet. The sign-up bonus is the engine: the typical offer is 60,000 to 100,000 points after $3,000 to $6,000 of spending in three to six months, which is exactly why a minimum spend becomes something to plan a month around. Banks have noticed, too. Chase will decline you if you have opened five or more personal cards in 24 months, a rule so well known it has its own name, and news outlets now report on banks cracking down on churning.
The payoff is the part wearers brag about. Business class awards can start at 50,000 points one way during a Flying Blue promotion, and bloggers value a point at one and a half to two cents, or far more when it buys lie-flat seats. Frequent Miler even sells its own trucker hat.
These hats are written in that voice: proud, a little smug, aimed at the wearer's own wallet. There are two plain badges, a lounge line, and confessions about minimum spend and sign-up bonuses. Each is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat, a fit for the friend who already has a spreadsheet and a next card picked out.
