Peace Corps Souvenirs: One Language One Parasite Hat
More than 240,000 Americans have served in the Peace Corps since 1961, and the ones who come home have their own name, RPCV, and their own way of talking about it. Service is 27 months. The agency's slogan, the toughest job you'll ever love, was relaunched in March 2026 as Still the Toughest Job You'll Ever Love, and the Peace Corps blog itself jokes with a headline about 4 reasons you should not hire a returned volunteer. The in-group runs on shared stories: host families, latrines (there is a book called The Peace Corps Latrine Reader), reverse culture shock, and giant grocery stores filled with endless choices that can be too much after service. Returned volunteers also bond over giardia, amoebas and bacterial stool infections.
These hats are for returned volunteers and the people who love them. Two badges, RPCV and the full title, name the identity. The sentence designs carry the slogan, the volunteer who starts every story with when I was in the Peace Corps, a ranking of Peace Corps over corporate, a souvenir list of one language and one parasite, a three-minute bucket bath, a host family with a host chicken, and a lingering fear of the cereal aisle. The slogan and the souvenir line each get a second colorway.
Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. A good gift for a volunteer coming home, or from one RPCV to another.
