Old House & Century Home Hats

Old house people share a vocabulary: lath and plaster, knob and tube, original windows, and the sentence nothing is level, nothing is plumb, nothing is square. That last one is how Steve Roy of Adams & Roy Preservation Contractors describes the houses his firm restores, and restoration carpenter David Adams puts the other side plainly: if you want perfectly plumb, level and square, buy a new house. The community is active, with r/centuryhomes for owners and Cheap Old Houses, an Instagram account turned HGTV show whose fans prize houses frozen in time with their original details. The joke they all know is the 1986 Tom Hanks film The Money Pit, whose real mansion later sold at a loss. These old house hats are written from the owner's side of the plaster. OLD HOUSE LOVER and CENTURY HOME are the badges, and SAVE OLD HOUSES is a cause already sold as a dad cap by Brownstone Boys, so it comes in a second colorway along with NOTHING IS LEVEL. The sentence designs carry the originals: hardwood, wiring and problems; character over central air; a money pit with its own historical society; and a plea not to paint the woodwork. Starter Home & House Poor hats are about affordability, and Three Week Job hats about the renovation itself; neither speaks to the original trim. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat.
