Mothman Hats

Point Pleasant, West Virginia, a town of fewer than 5,000 people, draws about 20,000 visitors to its Mothman Festival, which began in 2002 as a one-day event; the 2025 festival on September 20-21 was reported as record-breaking. It all goes back to November 15, 1966, when two couples reported a winged figure with glowing red eyes near the old TNT plant. A 12-foot stainless steel statue by Bob Roach has stood on Main Street since 2003, beside the Mothman Museum and its gift shop of hats, shirts and stickers. The internet added a chapter of its own: the moth-and-lamp meme, which began with a Reddit comment, Hey buddy you have any LAMPS?! These hats are for the believers and the defenders. MOTHMAN and MOTHMAN POINT PLEASANT, WV are the plain badges. The longer designs argue on his behalf: he did nothing wrong, he just wants the lamp, he warned me, and he was very polite. A sold shirt already insists that if something bad happens it is definitely not his fault, and Mothman Is My Boyfriend is the title of an actual book. The lamp line and the did-nothing-wrong line each come in a second colorway. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat.
