Moth Lover & Mothing Hats

Mothing is the amateur's version of birding after dark. Defector described it as like birding, but for moths, and the National Moth Week organizers say the setup can be as easy as turning on a porch light or casting bright light onto a white sheet, with a black light preferred by hobbyists. National Moth Week itself was founded in 2012 and has registered events in all 50 states, running in the last full week of July. The fandom also has its own meme. The moth lamp meme began with a Reddit photo posted on 14 July 2018 and later reached more than a million views on Know Your Meme, which is why a moth fan will ask if you have any lamps. Defector's moth-ers pun, the long-running iNaturalist habit of calling butterflies silly day-flying moths, and the nightly reality that most visitors on the sheet are small and brown all show up in the lines. These hats cover the badges, the lamp question, the butterfly argument and the porch light run like a nightclub. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear one to the sheet, or give one to the friend who keeps the yard lit for bugs.
