Maine Hats

Maine has its own language, and Mainers wear it with a straight face. Ayuh can mean yes or only that something was said. The sign says Maine, the way life should be, and the state's plates say Vacationland. Then there is the rule that you are from away: sources say it takes two or three generations before a family counts as Mainer, no matter how long the mortgage has been paid. These Maine hats come from the in-group. Moxie, the official beverage of Maine, has its own festival in Lisbon with a parade and a chugging contest, and the people who stuck with it say they were rewarded with the true flavor.
