The VTEC joke is older than most people's first car. "VTEC just kicked in, yo" began on 4chan's /p/ board and was popular as an image macro by 2005, a catchphrase for a Honda that suddenly gets fast. The real thing is variable valve timing that switches cam profiles, and forum veterans will still tell you it is not only a high-RPM trick. The rest of the vocabulary travels with it: K-swaps, Type R badges, coilovers, a rear wing that generates its downforce at 30 mph, a forum joke that goes back years. Honda fans have been wearing "Need Money for VTEC" on dad hats for a long time, which is proof the identity sells. The scene keeps growing, too. Under the US 25-year import rule, cars from 2000 became eligible in 2025, and millennials and Gen Z raised on The Fast and the Furious are the ones buying.
