Grunge & 90s Alternative Hats

Nirvana's Nevermind came out on 24 September 1991, and 2026 is its 35th anniversary, with tribute tours playing the US, UK and Australia. The scene around it had a look as well as a sound: Doc Martens and combat boots were staples of Seattle, and in 1992 Marc Jacobs sent a grunge collection down the Perry Ellis runway. The people who wore it were tagged Generation X, and the leading edge of that generation is now well into middle age. The big four of grunge were Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. These grunge hats are for the people who lived it. The badges name the genre and the decade, GRUNGE and 90S ALT ROCK, and SEATTLE SOUND nods to where it started. The sentence designs carry the joke the wearer is actually living: flannel bought for angst rather than warmth, a closet with seven flannels and one feeling, apathy that has been a profession since 1993, and a SMELLS LIKE DAD SPIRIT riff on a song title that began as graffiti about a deodorant brand. This is the grunge-vocabulary collection, separate from Elder Emo, Dad Rock and Gen X Latchkey, which cover other corners of the same generation. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear one to the next reunion show, or give one to the friend who still owns the flannel.
