Greyhound adopters have a phrase for their dogs: "40-mile-an-hour couch potatoes," as a Kansas City rescue volunteer put it in September 2026, when owners walked their dogs for the Great Global Greyhound Walk. A greyhound can sprint at track speed, then nap up to 16 hours a day. Many came off the track having never seen stairs, windows or grass, and rescues ask adopters for home visits, vet checks and references before a dog goes home. Greyhound Pets of America has placed ex-racers since 1987, and when Florida ended dog racing on December 31, 2020, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 dogs needed new homes. These greyhound hats are for the people who answered that call. Two badges cover the search pair, GREYHOUND MOM and GREYHOUND DAD. The sentence designs carry the owner jokes: the 45 MPH COUCH POTATO phrase, which is also the name of a Naples adoption group, the retiree who adopted a retired racer, the former professional athlete who is now a roommate, and the adopter who cannot stop at one. ADOPT A RETIRED RACER is the plain version of the rescue pitch. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat.
