Golf Course Marshal & Ranger Hats

A golf course marshal is, in the SCGA's words, a task almost universally performed by 60- to 80-year-old retired men, there to help with pace of play. The usual deal is two or three days a week in a cart, with free golf on the other days, which is why the job comes with so much pride and so little pay. The work is also gentler than the nickname suggests: one marshal describes his method as killing them with kindness, and the training advice is blunt about it, be patient, be compassionate, do not be overbearing. Golfers have their own picture of the other side, Marshal Earp stepping out of the trees to announce that a slow group had better speed up. These hats belong to the marshal, the ranger and the starter. Plain badges carry the three titles people search for, and the sentence designs take the retired authority seriously and then a little too far: free golf and full authority, the sheriff of the back nine, slow play killed with kindness, a ranger who is not rushing anyone but encouraging them, and highly trained cart parking. This is the course staff role, not the golfer, so it sits apart from Funny Golf, Golf Cart Life and Funny Retirement. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Give one to the retiree who patrols the back nine in a cart.
