Gen X Latchkey Hats

Gen X is sixty-five million people that every generational think-piece forgets to mention. Boomers get the blame, millennials get the coverage, Gen Z gets the trend pieces, and the people currently running most of the org chart get skipped entirely. The oldest of them are hitting sixty this year and have not mellowed even slightly. They were the latchkey generation: a house key on a shoelace, an empty house until six, and an entire childhood conducted without supervision between breakfast and the streetlights coming on. Hydration was whatever came out of the spigot in the side yard. The only rule was be home by dark, and nobody enforced it with a phone because there wasn't one. Ask them about it and the answer is always the same, delivered slightly too fast: we turned out fine. These hats are that answer, worn as a credential rather than a complaint.
