Friday the 13th comes around three times in 2026, and the last one is November 13, with the next on August 13, 2027. Not everyone dreads it. Tattoo shop owner Sonny Aguilar, who was born on a Friday the 13th, has always thought it a lucky day. The $13 flash tattoo tradition, first reported in 1995 at a Dallas studio, turns the date into a line at the door: Embassy Tattoo in Washington has run the sale for nine years, tattooed about 200 people last year, and saw the line wrap around the block, with one customer arriving at 8:30 am for a noon opening. Prices vary, with $13, $31 and $130 all common, and artist Tuan Dang says some clients get a whole arm of Friday the 13th tattoos. In 2025 Von Dutch and Sailor Jerry put Lucky 13 on trucker caps. These hats are for the people who claim the day. FRIDAY THE 13TH and LUCKY 13 are the plain badges. The longer designs carry the proudly anti-superstitious: born on the date, walking under ladders on purpose, living on the 13th floor that buildings skip, and standing first in line for $13 ink. The 13th-floor boast and the $13 tattoo line each come in a second colorway. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat.
