Dyslexia Pride Hats

Dyslexia has its own awareness calendar: all of October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, World Dyslexia Awareness Day falls on 10 October, and Go Red for Dyslexia is a recognised solidarity symbol. These hats are for the people behind the ribbon, dyslexic wearers who have been telling their own jokes for years, and the parents, tutors and reading specialists who buy for them. The best-known joke is the community's founding pun. One account has it that a dyslexic teacher wrote Dyslexics Untie on the board and a dyslexic student read it as Dyslexics Unite. A fist design built on that line already turns up in merchandise results, and it leads this page. The rest of the set carries the same in-group voice: I Swear To Dog, the old joke about the man who walks into a bra, a b or d coin toss, and Dyslexic Thinking, a label educators now promote as a strength. One honest note on the coin toss: mixing up b and d is normal for young children and is not by itself a sign of dyslexia, so that line is an in-joke, not a diagnosis. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear one in October, or give one to the kid, tutor or friend who reads between the lines.
