My Abuelo Taught Me Dominoes And Trash Talk Hat
Dominoes is more than a game in a lot of families. In Miami, Maximo Gomez Park on Calle Ocho is nicknamed Domino Park, a city park since 1976, where Cuban retirees have gathered to play and drink coffee for decades. In Puerto Rico the clack of fichas on the table at family parties and on the beach is part of the everyday soundtrack, and someone shouts capicu when a game ends the right way. Remezcla puts it plainly: if baseball is the Dominican favorite sport, dominoes is the favorite pastime, and it calls the game Dominican chess. In many Black families the domino table is the same story, a holiday is not a gathering until someone's feelings get hurt there, and the trash talk comes from a grandmother who is sweet everywhere else.
These dominoes hats are made for that table. Three badges name the game and its royalty: DOMINOES, DOMINO KING and DOMINO QUEEN, the last of which already sells on hats elsewhere. The sentence designs carry the sound of slamming the bones, the chess-with-noise argument, a shuffle with some aggression in it, and the family origin story of learning the game and the trash talk together before you could reach the table.
Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear one to the next game night, or give one to the partner you have played with for twenty years.
