Plátano Power Hat
Dominicans are the largest Hispanic group in New York City: 702,330 residents in the 2020 census, up from 576,701 in 2010, with 47% of them living in the Bronx by 2019 and Washington Heights as the biggest Dominican community in the city. Everything on this page comes from that diaspora, and from the island its slang travels home to.
The vocabulary is the point. KLK is the shorthand for Qué es lo que hay, the Dominican greeting that works as a whole conversation. Tíguere is the street-smart operator. Plátano Power is the team slogan from the 2017 World Baseball Classic that fans kept wearing, and the Dominican team went 5-0 in the 2026 edition, beating South Korea 10-0 in the quarterfinal before a 2-1 semifinal loss to the USA. De lo mío is the possessive pride phrase already sold on vintage Dominican caps. Quisqueya is the island's old name.
Then there is the table. Los tres golpes is mangú with fried Dominican salami, fried cheese and fried eggs, historically eaten in the campo before a day of fieldwork, and it knocks you out by design. La bandera is the rice, beans and meat plate that shares its name with the flag, which is the joke behind LA BANDERA EVERY DAY.
Each design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Wear the flag you can eat, or give one to the cousin who still answers every text with KLK.
