Diogenes & Cynic Philosophy Hats

Diogenes of Sinope, traditionally dated 404-323 BCE, is the ancient Greek Cynic the internet adopted as its favourite shameless contrarian. "Cynic" comes from the Greek word for dog, kyon, because his contemporaries called his life that of a dog. He slept in a large ceramic jar in the marketplace and ate discarded scraps. It was a jar, a pithos, and not a barrel, since barrels had not been invented yet. When Plato defined man as a featherless biped, Diogenes plucked a chicken and brought it to the Academy. That story fed a meme that began on 4chan's /his/ board in October 2015. His answer to Alexander the Great was to ask him to stand a little out of his sun, and he is famous for carrying a lamp in daylight, looking for an honest man. These Diogenes hats keep that stubborn voice. DIOGENES and CYNIC PHILOSOPHER are the plain badges; the rest are the bits, from the plucked chicken to a school of philosophy whose classes are held in a jar. Hat pages on TeePublic already sell STAND OUT OF MY LIGHT, so it gets a second colorway, and so does the chicken line. Philosophy Major & Existentialist Hats cover Camus, Kant and Plato's cave but have no Diogenes lines, and Nihilist Penguin is a different meme. Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Choose one for the philosophy student, the history teacher, or anyone who wants you out of their light.
