Cuffing Season Hats

Cuffing season starts somewhere between August and October and runs until roughly March, when the weather improves and so does everybody's confidence. The theory is simple: the nights get long, the plans get indoor, and single people who were perfectly content in July begin looking for somebody to be cold with. There is no biological basis for it. Researchers have looked, and the honest answer is that it is psychological and seasonal and lines up neatly with Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's Day arriving in a row. Which makes it one of the few dating phenomena that everyone participates in while openly admitting it is happening. That self-awareness is the whole joke, and it is what these hats run on. Nobody enters cuffing season believing it is forever. The wearer is not being tricked, they are volunteering: available for the season, hiring for the position, single again in March. Say it at the start rather than the finish and it stops being a disappointment and starts being a schedule.
