Coonhound & Coon Hunting Hats

Coon hunting is a night sport run on sound. Hunters gather, talking softly, waiting for the music to begin, and then the dogs do the work: trailing and treeing a raccoon, then staying at the tree howling like mad. A hound has three distinct sounds, one for a line found, one for a fresh line and one for a coon treed, and hunters argue over a coarse mouth against a tenor mouth, or a tight-mouth dog against a loose-mouthed one. Six breeds are called coonhounds: Black and Tan, Redbone, Bluetick, English, Treeing Walker and Plott.
