My Toaster Is In My Will Hat
Buy It For Life, BIFL for short, is a genre of internet in its own right. The r/BuyItForLife community, started in 2011 and now in the millions of members, trades photos of things that refuse to die: a waffle iron from the 1920s still working flawlessly, a Singer sewing machine a hundred years old, a 97-year-old Waterman 52 pen. Consumer Reports runs its own best-BIFL-products guide, and one of the subreddit's moderators told MEL that the longer a product stays around, the more stories it collects. MEL's piece adds that repairability matters as much as durability, which is where the resoling and the repair histories come in.
These BIFL hats are for the person who spent six weeks researching a vacuum. Two badges carry the search terms, BUY IT FOR LIFE and BIFL. The sentence designs start from the community's own mottos, BUY ONCE CRY ONCE and BUY NICE OR BUY TWICE, then follow the logic too far: cost per use calculated on socks, a lifetime warranty to collect on, a toaster written into the will, jeans with a repair history, and a boot question that deserves an hour. Two lines get a second colorway.
Every design is custom embroidered on an unstructured dad hat. Choose one for yourself, or for the person who has never had to replace a toaster.
