And this month the bit got physical, with Pokemon GO's tenth anniversary putting a thousand people in Times Square to fight a Mewtwo — the summer of 2016 restaged, on purpose, at scale. The funny part is that most of the people mourning 2016 were about eleven. This is aspirational nostalgia, not the biographical kind.
